Baptism is an essential step of obedience and salvation according to Scripture. Jesus commanded it, and the apostles preached and practiced it.
A COMMAND?
WHY BAPTISM?
REMISSION OF SINS
“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Acts 2:38)
BEING BORN AGAIN
“Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5)
A BURIAL WITH CHRIST
“We are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4)
Baptism is not just an outward declaration; it is a spiritual birth and washing away of sins (Acts 22:16).
SECOND BIRTH?
WHY IN JESUS NAME?
THE APOSTLES ALWAYS BAPTIZED IN JESUS' NAME
“They were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 8:16)
ITS THE ONLY SAVING NAME!
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
IT FULFILLS MATTHEW 28:19
Jesus instructed to baptize “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” The apostles understood that Jesus is the name that fulfills this command (Colossians 2:9, Matthew 1:21).
EARLY CHURCH DID IT THE SAME?
The early church only baptized in Jesus’ Name, and we continue in the same biblical truth today.
How do I know if I need to be re-baptized?
Baptized as a baby
which is not a personal decision of repentance
Baptized using titles
“Father, Son, Holy Ghost”) instead of the name of Jesus
Baptized too soon
Without full understanding the purpose of baptism
THE ONLY BIBLICAL WAY?
If you were baptized in a different way than what the apostles taught, you need to be re-baptized in Jesus' Name. It's the ONLY biblical way—in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
How Do I Get Baptized?
By full immersion in water
The Greek word for baptism (baptizo) means “to immerse” (Matthew 3:16, Acts 8:38-39).
In the Name of Jesus Christ
Following the apostolic example (Acts 2:38, Acts 10:48).
After repentance
Baptism is for those who have turned from sin and believe in Jesus (Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38).
